Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups warm whole milk
- 2 tablespoons honey or sugar
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 4 cups bread flour
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (or vegetable oil)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg (optional)
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine warm milk and honey (or sugar). Stir in the yeast and let it sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
2. Mix the Dough
Gradually add flour, melted butter, salt, and egg (if using) to the yeast mixture. Mix until a rough dough forms.
3. Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for about 5-7 minutes.
4. First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
5. Shape the Rolls
Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a smooth ball and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space for expansion.
6. Second Rise
Cover with a towel and let them rise again for 30 minutes until puffy.
7. Bake to Perfection
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the rolls with melted butter or an egg wash for a glossy finish. Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
8. Cool & Serve
Let the rolls cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
