Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or almonds
- 1/4 cup toffee bits (Heath or similar)
Instructions
- Prepare the Baking Sheet: Line a 9×13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Set aside to prevent sticking.
- Cook the Butter and Sugar: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sugar and salt, stirring constantly. Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat and cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring continuously, until it reaches a golden brown color.
- Add Vanilla: Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Be cautious, as it may bubble up. Keep stirring until fully combined.
- Pour the Toffee: Quickly pour the toffee mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it evenly with a spatula before it hardens.
- Add Chocolate Chips: Immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee. Let them sit for a minute to soften, then spread the melted chocolate over the toffee.
- Top with Nuts and Toffee Bits: Sprinkle the chopped pecans or almonds and toffee bits over the melted chocolate, pressing them down gently.
- Cool and Set: Allow the toffee to cool at room temperature for 2-3 hours until it hardens completely.
- Break into Pieces: Once set, break the toffee into bite-sized pieces using your hands or a knife.
- Serve and Enjoy: Your homemade “Better Than Anything” toffee is ready to be shared and enjoyed.
Notes
- Top with sea salt: For a modern twist, sprinkle flaky sea salt over the chocolate before adding the toppings.
- Use dark chocolate: Prefer a less sweet version? Swap the semi-sweet chips for dark chocolate.
- Gift it: Pack the toffee in a decorative tin or box for a thoughtful homemade gift.
